The Beginning of a Legacy

In 1751, a group of German Colonists, from Bavaria, southern region of Germany which borders on Austria and Czech-slovakia, arrived in Georgia. Of this group, the first "Striegel" settled in what is now known as Screven County. George Striegel and his wife had three children, one of which was named Nicholas. After serving in the Revolutionary War, Nicholas retired and married Sarah O'Bryan. To this union was born five children: Nicholas Jr., Archibald, Catherine, Martha and Sarah. Archibald Striegle, born around 1814, had his first union with a slave woman by the name of Barbara Sapp, which produced Sam Striegle around 1853. Archibald's second union was with Eliza Lovette, who was born in 1842. It is highly possible that Eliza was a slave. This union produced, Lucy(1867), Ella(1869), Zollie(1871), Tom(1874), John(1879), and Ida(1882). The date of Archibald's death has not been determined. The first Striggles Family Reunion was organized and held in Augusta, Georgia on July 4th, 1980. It produced over three hundred people from throughout the United States and the Virgin Islands. It was, is, and will be a glorious celebration of Family Unity, Love and Pride.
